Problem with an update of perl-Finance-Quote
(too old to reply)

When I allow this to update, it fails with

No Packages to update
None of the selected packages could be updated.

perl-Finance-Quote-1.20-3.el6.noarch requires perl(JSON) : Success -
empty transaction

As a result, I continue to get a notice to update it. My current version
of it is

perl-Finance-Quote-1.17-1.el6.rf.noarch

I do not know what perl(JSON) is.
I have a giant list of perl modules. In alphabetical order, the first one is

perl-5.10.1-136.el6.x86_64

What must I do to get this update to work? I am running RHEL 6.

If I understand cpan, it has to do with getting modules from a perl
library, among other things. I have no intention of compiling any
modules. Furthermore, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux system relies on
getting .rpms mainly form Red Hat's own archives and getting .rpm files
from other sources usually does not work be cause of library
incompatibilities, so I do not wish to do that.

I assume other users of current Red Hat (Enterprise) Linux should also
be experiencing this problem and someone may have figured out what to do
about it.

perl-Finance-Quote-1.20-3.el6 is in the EPEL repository. When I go to install it
here, it pulls in perl-JSON from base (and half a dozen other required
packages). Is your RHN subscription up to date and are you able to install other
packages? Do you have any exclude= lines in /etc/yum.conf or
/etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo that might be excluding perl*?

Yes, my subscription is up to date. I have been able to install 7
bunches of updates from Red Hat so far this month of March.

/etc/yum.repos.d/*.repo that might be excluding perl*?
yum.conf has lots of comments, but only

$ cat yum.conf
[main]
cachedir=/var/cache/yum/$basearch/$releasever
keepcache=0
debuglevel=2
logfile=/var/log/yum.log
exactarch=1
obsoletes=1
gpgcheck=1
plugins=1
installonly_limit=3

of executable stuff.

There are a lot of .repo files in yum/repos.d, but I do not know how to
read them. However:

$ ls -l *.repo
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 957 Nov 4 2012 epel.repo
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 1056 Nov 4 2012 epel-testing.repo
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 188 Mar 19 2011 google-chrome-64bit.repo
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 125 Mar 22 18:41 packagekit-media.repo
-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 529 Oct 30 11:05 rhel-source.repo
DellT7600:jeandavid8[/etc/yum.repos.d]$ grep "*exclude*" *.repo
DellT7600:jeandavid8[/etc/yum.repos.d]$
